Do you mean Competa?
Competa is a small town of about 3000 inhabitants that is located 75minutes from Málaga airport on the Motril bypass and 30 minutes from the coastal towns of Torrox and Nerja.
Competa is now most famous for its wine, beautiful mountains and friendly Spanish atmosphere. You'll find many restaurants, cafés and bars (especially around the main square of Plaza Almijara) as well as shops selling wine, antiques, ceramics and local honey. This area has become particularly popular with Scandinavian expats, many of whom have renovated old farmhouses in the area.
Foreigners relocating to Competa have had a positive influence on the previously high levels of migration of young people to the larger cities and coastal areas. The town is now quite self sufficient with a thriving town market and a fresh daily supply of meat fish and vegetables.
Although you won't find the same expat communities you would find in Malaga, or even Nerja, there are certainly a few floating about and you are bound to meet them or hear of them through your daily activities when there. Maybe enquire in to larger nearby expat communities and organise to meet with expats living on the outskirts of the larger centres nearby.
Here you will find a fairly popular Spanish expat forum, you're sure to find some helpful information and like minded people in your area.
